Import Metadata for Specific IP Address

Is there a way to import an EA to specific host records?

I have a very large network of over 250K objects, I have imported the main IPv4 Network and running Network Insight with no problem. Unfortunately, our predessesors used EASYIP as a glorified speadsheet, placing comments on specific IP addresses.

Thanks!

You could try the CSV import feature, I recently used it to update meta data (Object Class field) for host records, see example below:

header-hostrecord,fqdn*,addresses,comment,configure_for_dns,EA-Object Class,EAInherited-Object Class
hostrecord,VOX012.xxxx.local,10.72.29.151,(inactive Dec 2014),TRUE,Server,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,IOT001.xxxx.local,10.120.131.20,00:26:73:14:4c:df,TRUE,Printer,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,SixO2003.xxxx.local,10.64.160.7,02 Boost Box,TRUE,WIFI Access Point,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,Aprimo-Web6.xxxx.local,10.78.18.157,10.78.18.155,TRUE,Server,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,bass13.xxxx.local,10.87.62.13,13th floor cat2960 stack,TRUE,Switch,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,bass14.xxxx.local,10.87.62.14,14th floor cat3750 stack,TRUE,Switch,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,bass15.xxxx.local,10.87.62.15,15th floor cat3750 stack,TRUE,Switch,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,bass16.xxxx.local,10.87.62.16,16th floor cat3750,TRUE,Switch,OVERRIDE
hostrecord,bass17.xxxx.local,10.87.62.17,17th floor 2960G,TRUE,Switch,OVERRIDE

If you are modifying existing host records, the 'addresses,comment,configure_for_dns' columns are all optional.

You just need the fqdn (and any other fields marked with an '*' ) to identify the record to change.

(the '*' is also optional, BTW, this is just a documentation feature)

paulr,

Thanks for that!

Now this question may be stupid (just let me know)

Is there any other option to only utilize a comments field for engineers?

they used EASYIP to track specifics like these below. It appears that the any field is unedittable on IPAM view

10.0.254.121,cs-3684-lan-r2 g9/8

10.0.254.122,cs-ow-core-ac1 lan0_0

10.0.254.221,aa-core-ac1 wan0_0

10.0.254.244,nr-core-rs1 g9/7

10.0.254.209,ms-3684-lan-r2 g9/9

Just create a new extensible attribute for the engineers data and import your data into it. To use the "HostRecord" object you need to supply a FQDN, if you have loads of IPs with no names you might have to look at using a different object type such as IPv4 Fixed Address/Reservation - check the CSV import reference guide for details.
