I am new to NetMRI (I believe this is an alias for IPAM Insight).
I have been able to do some basic discovery using the Discovery Wizard.
And while my Windows devices are being discovered, the fact that they are windows devices is not discovered.
Is there some configuration item that needs to be set in order to get Windows information?

You can go to Settings>Colllectors and Groups and enable NetBIOS scanning that will get more information for the Windows base devices.

I did that (enabled Netbios).
Many thousands of xp-hosts are not recognised - in fact not a single one... I have many thousands in the "UNKNOWN" -group
But 7 windows 2000 units are found. I dont get this...
What can i do, to learn how many Xp' clients are in our network?

Might the Windows firewall on the XP systems be blocking the NetBIOS queries?
Try manually confirming from another Windows device via "netstat -A <IP_of_XP>"

By typing netstat -a (another IP on subnet running Xp, i get the same amount of data, as "netstat -a" on my own Pc.
What else could be causing Xp's not showing under "Os's "

I have not enabled port scan however. Would that perhaps solve the problem?
We have been very reluctant due to fear of stress on the network.
What are your experience on the port-scanning part of NetMri?

Considering the pricing on the products, i must admint, that im not terribly impressed with the degree of support being an end user... Not here, not at Infoblox.com. How come noone is dedicated to help us end-users in a forum like this. It's us who use the products on a daily basis - not our "representative" or what you call the persons allowed to ask Infoblox directly. /Jan Denmark

This area isn't a place for formal support, for that, you need to open a ticket with the support team. It's intended to be an area where users share and help each other. Infoblox people chime in when they can, but we can't guarantee that an Infoblox person will answer anything here. If you need formal support, please do so via the official support channels.
