NetMRI Will not pull configs from Nortel Baystack 470

Hello Everyone,

 I am new to the Infoblox and NetMRI Community. I have been trying to learn NetMRI and I am running into a road block.

 I have some old Nortel Baystack 470's I am trying to grab configs from.

I get as far as the script, and then I see the script trying to use a command the switch does not reconize and it causes it to fail.

+++ Script: Nortel Config Retrieval Script
+++ Script-Filter ...................................................... MATCH
+++ Looking up authentication information .............................. OK
+++ Opening telnet session with XXX.XXX.XXX.X ........................... OK
+++ Got Ctrl-Y prompt, sending 'Ctrl-Y' ................................ OK
+++ Got password prompt, sending '*******' ............................. OK
+++ Got Main Menu prompt, sending 'C' .................................. OK
+++ Sending 'enable' ................................................... OK

+++ 1. Action: Get Router Configs
+++ 1. Action-Filter ................................................... NO MATCH

+++ 2. Action: Get Switch Configs
+++ 2. Action-Filter ................................................... NO MATCH
+++ Closing session .................................................... OK
*** Successfully ran configuration command script ***Unable to collect config file

"Get Switch Configs" is not a command it uses.

The issue I see is the only options I have for copying the config from the switch are to nvram or tftp server.

Do I need to modify the script it is using or is there another way around this issue?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to ask your Infoblox SE to log a device support bundle on your behalf to obtain support for this switch. Engineering will have to develop it, test it and then maintain it, if they decide to build support for it.

Hello TechSavvy86,

run the DSR (Device Support Request) Tool in NetMRI and go through all necessary steps.

Based on that, Infoblox is very likely to build a DSB  (Device Support Bundle) for the device if all information have been gathered correctly.

If you like, attach the DSR to your next post.

Thanks

MPL

Looks like you are running NetMRI 6.8 or earlier based on the output. Can you please tell me what NetMRI has for the Type (e.g. Switch, Router, etc.), Model and sysDescr for this device?

Thanks,

- Chris

+++ 2. Action: Get Switch Configs

This line isn't the commands being sent, that's just the name of the second Action section in the script. The Action-Commands section never ran since the Action-Filter section wasn't matched.

That is correct and knowing what NetMRI has for the Type (e.g. Switch, Router, etc.), Model and sysDescr for this device will tell us why the Action-Filter isn't matching.

Thanks,

- Chris

Good morning,

 I did send off the request for support and completed all required information.

 Its funny, the Script for the Nortel 4548's we have has the commands needed for the Nortel Baystack 470's

The comman I need is "Show running-config"

Yep, "show running-config" would be the command run *if* the Action-Filter evaluated to true, which it is not. Can you provide the information requested above here? There have been modifications to the Nortel config collection script since 6.8 and this data may tell me if/whether upgrading to a more recent version would resolve the issue.

Thanks,

- Chris

Type: Switch 99%

Vendor: Nortel

Model: Baystack 470-48T

Asset Type: Physical Device

Thanks for the info. Based on this, I understand why this isn't working in 6.8 (or earlier). Also, looking at the Nortel config retrieval script for 6.9 and 7.0, I believe upgrading to either of these versions will resolve this issue provided that the device's sysDescr does *not* contain the text "Ethernet Routing Switch".

I would recommend contacting support and they can walk you through the process. I still don't know exactly what version you are currently running, but I can tell that it is 6.8 or earlier. Generally, performing an upgrade is as simple as running a command and following the instructions on the screen, however, the 6.9 upgrade required some sort of pre-upgrade diagnostic to be run first, I belive. Support can help out with this too.

Thanks,

- Chris

You may want to check out this blog post, which is a Support KB Article with an attached PDF that may be helpful.

That support article is about NIOS, not NetMRI.

The following is a link to a KB article in the support site

Upgrading Network Automation from Version 4.3.1 to Version 6.8.8 or 7.0.2

This has the information about upgrading to the latest version
