Hello everyone. Looking for direction to have NetMRI 7.2.2 accurately classify Cisco wireless access points.
At present the access points are known as a Cisco device but have a device type of 'switch-router'.
Is there a means by which I can configure NetMRI, so it gives these the correct device type of 'wireless ap'?
The number is significant, so manually changing them is not an option.
Does anyone else have the correct 'wireless ap' discovery working? How did you do it?
In addition to the APs being the wrong 'type', the have a name of 'unknown'.
Are others having this situation?
Any assistance in getting these correctly discovered would be appreicated.
Thanks in advance for the assist.
Jim

What are the models of Wireless APs you have that are not properly identified? Is SNMP collection performed on them successfully?

Are they LW APs or FAT APs?
Also, do you have a naming convention like ap in the name?

The APs are Cisco AIR-CAP36021-S-K9 models, connected to a AIR-CT5508-K9 wireless controller. (Aironet)
The APs are unnamed, NOT in DNS. And, they do not have SNMP directly enabled. AP name is what the Controller shows via the 'ap summary' command, or in NetMRI under 'Wireless', 'Access Points'.
Both 'Device Type' and 'Name' would have to obtained from the wireless controller.
Unless someone has another idea.
Thanks,
Jim

If they are in DNS you could have done a Device Hint to make them all come up Wireless
You can look at enabling SNMP if needed but as of right now I can't think of another way.

Since they are running controller-based AireOS, NetMRI needs to gather all AP info via the controllers, beginning in 7.2.2. All APs associated with a controller will show in the controller Device Viewer -> Wireless -> Access Points. That table includes IP, Name, Location, model, SN, MAC, Status, SW and boot versions and other details.
What are you trying to get NetMRI to do directly with the APs? Include them in issues such as Down Device, etc.?

Yes, DNS and/or SNMP would make discovery easier.
What I am trying to do, is have 'discovery' actually set 'device type' to 'Wireless AP'.
And/or set Device Name.
Currently the 'type' of 'switch-router' for an 'unknown' AP is not accurate, and while I can manually change, there are two many to do so.
unknown | Switch-Router (20%) |
Hopefully this helps to explain.
Thanks again.

This is an ooooold post but I'm having the same issue and wanting the same result as the initial post.
The APs are all coming up as Switch router and I want them to be accuretly listed as Wireless APs. I see all the APs when I log into the controller and look at the Wireless tab so I know it sees them.

Hmm, similar issue here.
LW AP under AireOS WLC.
The AP is correcty shown under Wireless - Device Viewer, but seems the name is not used in the Discovery window.
In my case, the AP comes up as Router and name is unknown.
Any ways to maybe re-use the name and maybe using Device Hints from the data discovered in WLC?

I know the post is old but I am having the same problem. Have you found a solution with the wireless AP listing? https://19216801.win/ https://routerlogin.cloud/ https://192168101.red/
Best regards.
