Basic questions concerning reporting appliance

I'm preparing to install a physical reporting appliance into our existing grid and have a few questions that I can't find answers to in the documentation.  Background: Using NIOS 7.3.8.  We have one grid master (HA pair) on a network all by itself.  All our grid members are in remote locations also the sole devices on their networks.

1) Is it OK to install the reporting appliance on the same network as the grid master?

2) For reporting purposes, does each grid member transmit data directly to the reporting appliance?

3) When the reporting service is enabled on a grid member, does it add a significant load to the grid member?

4) What is the purpose of the infoblox-reporting-analytics-1.0.3-xxxxx file?  Where does this file get installed?

#1. Yes
#2. Yes
#3. No. There may be additional load for things like collecting query log data but that will usually be around 30%. Since you’re likely not running QPS near capacity, you shouldn’t even notice any difference.
#4. That is an “out of band” upgrade to the reporting engine. With the version of code you are running, you probably won’t need it since it’ll be pre-installed. That said, you would use a file like that one and upload it to the Grid Master using the “Upgrade” option. The GM will know where to send it.

The primary purpose of the out of band upgrade is so the Splunk engine can be patched or upgraded even if there’s no NIOS upgrade necessary.

Thank you for the info.  It looks like the grid members talk to the reporting appliance on TCP port 9997.

Yes, that is correct. The default destination port for reporting is TCP 9997.

However, you can customize it by navigating to,

"Grid-->Grid Manager-->Reporting--> Edit Grid Reporting Properties-->General sidetab, Advanced section"

OR

"Administration-->Reporting-->Grid Reporting Properties-->General sidetab, Advanced section"

Hi,

A small correction.

The Infoblox Reporting Analytics App (IBRA), is upgraded by navigating in the GUI to "Administration-->Reporting-->Upgrade Reporting & Analytics App"
