Grid/Member DHCP Properties - IPv4 DDNS Domain Name useless?

Hi there,

I was playing around with different DDNS settings and I was wondering what is the purpose of the "IPv4 DDNS Domain Name" at Grid/Member Level (Grid/Member DHCP Properties)?

The Help & the Admin Guide both say: "You can specify a different domain name that the appliance uses specifically for DDNS updates. The appliance combines the hostname from the client and the domain name you specify to create the FQDN that it uses to update DNS. For IPv4 clients, you can specify the DDNS domain name at the network, network template, range, and range template levels."

So I run a test with the following settings:

> Grid DHCP Properties - Enable DDNS, DDNS Domain Name: example.com

> Member DHCP Properties - inherited (from Grid Infoblox)

> Network - inherited (from Grid Infoblox)

> DHCP Range - inherited (from Grid Infoblox)

> no IPv4 DHCP Option (15) on any level.

no DDNS Update on the DNS Server, as stated in the Help / Guide.

2nd test.. with the following settings:

> Grid DHCP Properties - Disable DDNS, no DDNS Domain Name

> Member DHCP Properties - inherited (from Grid Infoblox)

> Network - Enable DDNS, DDNS Domain Name: example.com

> DHCP Range - inherited (from network)

> no IPv4 DHCP Option (15) on any level.

DDNS Update on the DNS Server for the DHCPv4 client, A- & PTR-Record.

So.. everything works as expected, but I was wondering what is the use of the entry on the Grid/Member DHCP Properties level, as it is not used for inheritance and the Help / Guide says you do not define the DDNS Domain name on the Grid/Member level.

Why not remove it? or do I misunderstand something and it used somewhere else?
