the exam is mainly multiple-choice with some true-false questions.
if you have taken the core ddi course, the questions are straightforward.
you get two attempts at the exam included with the course.
if you don't pass on the first attempt you can request a coaching report and an instructor to walk you through there content areas where you were weak and strong.

The best approach is to take the Core DDI Basic and Intermediate Configuration classes. You can take them in ILT, vILT or on-demand. The exams are open book and you can use the course materials as reference. Without taking the courses, the exams are challenging due to the depth and breadth of the content.

I haven't clear one thing that Core DDI basic Configuration Exam is only take score from online test question and answer exam or other factors like time management or like lab accessment duration? Time management means that there are total 60 questions for 180 minutes and 3 minutes for each question. So if I stay over 3 minutes upon only 1 question, there is minus system for my score or not? or other lab accessment duration? @sjohnson

Content: It's pretty involved, I felt. You will need more than is in the free learning available.
Format: It's 180 minutes to answer 60 questions. You can mark questions and come back to them. You could spend 90 minutes on 1 question if you really wanted and I think it's scored the same if right or wrong. I had to walk my dog mid-test and it was not a big deal.
