Migration from Infoblox Grid Manager (v9.0.1) to Azure DNS – Guidance Needed

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to migrate all DNS zones—both secured and non-secured—from our current Infoblox Grid Manager (v9.0.1) to Azure DNS.

Unfortunately, due to the limitations of our Infoblox version:

  • The export feature is not enabled.
  • We do not have reports or insights into currently active DNS records.
  • I am uncertain which zones are actively in use and which ones are stale.

I’m looking for advice on:

  1. How to identify active/in-use zones vs inactive ones in this version.
  2. Steps required to manually export zone and record data.
  3. Any scripts or workarounds available that could help extract this data.
  4. Best practices for importing these zones into Azure DNS.

I'm fine with manual methods if needed, just looking for a solid approach to move forward. Any help, examples, or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You can take a performance hit and enable query logging on zones to find out which records are being queried and when. Query monitoring docs. You can CSV export any time to get zone data out.

Thank you this answers it!! I will enable query logging and use CSV export to see each DNS's zone info.
