Get DNS Views Associated to Member using WAPI

Is there a RESTful call to get a list of recursive views assigned to a member.

The 'view' object does not contain any link to DNS Members.

The 'member' object is generic about a member, not service.

The view is on zones, but I want to query a DNS Member and get the list of views attached ?

Our issue is we only want one 'view' + default.  Will always match the first view.  We manually remove, then over time additional views appear.

We have a support case open, but was thinking if we could 'monitor' by polling and if the list increases, we know to jump-in and remove.

Currently have upto 96 views and if the become attached and the DNS service restarts, they can starve the DNS of member of memory for caching, making it less efficient and in case performance problems.

Would be good if we can then programmatically remove the view (have 200+ nameservers) , but happy to start with just reading the list.

The views will only appear on the member if you’re making them authoritative for that view. The ordering is set to be automatic by default but you can disable that. I’m not sure if there’s a WAPI call for that but it sounds like you might have some other configuration issues that are causing this problem.

I suggest going back and reviewing to see if the NS Groups you are using (such as one flagged as the “default” NS Group) has all of these members that are you primary concern. If you do have a “default” NS Group, then yes, all of the new DNS Views will automatically get assigned to all of the nameservers in that group.

No.

You can use the member:dns object to get the view ordering, but not the list of recursive views.

    {
      "_ref": "member:dns/ZG5zLm1lbWJlcl9kbnNfcHJvcGVydGllcyQz:m1.infoblox.com",
      "auto_sort_views": false,
      "host_name": "m1.infoblox.com",
      "ipv4addr": "192.168.1.3",
      "ipv6addr": "2001:db8:a42:cafe:100::3",
      "views": [
        "default",
        "default.Company 2",
        "default.Company 3",
        "External",
        "Internal"
      ]
    }
  ]
}

In relation to the issue, none of the ns groups are ticked default, related to our nameservers.  have about 60 ns groups so no checked all.  The ns group with the specific nameservers is for zones/forwarding only for the specific local country.  So each country has a recursive view to handle specific zones/forwarding, else rely on root-hints/recursion to answer queries.

In relation to the query, your not aware of an api call to retrieve the list ?

Does not appear member:dns supported in the version of NIOS/Wapi we are using, 6.12.17 and WAPI 1.7.1, hence not seeing the option for views.

Hi,

I can not check it on NIOS 6.12& 7.0 but member:dns is definitely available starting 7.1.
