Need help with populating custom field values in custom issues

I wanted to populate custom field values as one of the columns in custom issues using python script.

I know there are well known variables that we can use in custom issues. We can also create custom columns with static values in custom issues but I wanted to populate custom field in custom issues and I am not sure what column name should I use to populate the value of custom field.

Is that possbile to use custom fields in custom issues using python script ?
