What does DHCPEXPIRE mean?

Found this in the Logfile

2024-06-03 15:45:59+02:00 xyz dhcpd[14438]: DHCPEXPIRE on IP to MAC

While DHCPACK/OFFER/REQUEST are part of the protocol, I cannot find any reference for DHCPEXPIRE.

Does anyone know what this actually means? Is this just the server recording, that the lease has ended without renewal or is it something the client sent? Thanks for any input or pointer.

The DHCPEXPIRE message in your log indicates that the DHCP server has recorded the expiration of a lease for a specific IP address and MAC address. It means that the lease for the IP address has ended, and it was not renewed by the client. This message is generated by the server to track lease expirations and is not something sent by the client.
