Support Central: KB #292: DHCP clients getting one hour lease time

Problem Summary

DHCP clients are getting a one hour lease instead of the configured lease time.

Customer Environment

NIOS appliance is serving DHCP using DHCP Failover.

Version

All NIOS versions.

Cause

The observed behavior is by design and by protocol.

Resolution

In a DHCP Failover configuration, the initial (first) lease that is given to a client will always be for one hour, or the value of the MCLT configuration option.  This is so the DHCP failover peers can update each other regarding new leases. Subsequent leases will be for the duration which is configured on the range from which the client is being served.
