GM in many cases won't have l3 access to the most of the IPs, so I doubt it does any ping checks. Most likely checks for any A or HOST records.

You put the license, then nios auto-reboots with more CPU and DB objects available. Is the only reason for upgrade is DB object count?

Please stay away from 8.5.1 as it confirmed to be bugged release. Go to 8.4.8 first and stay there until 8.5.2 is out

We use nginx reverse proxy to handle kerberos authentication, and based on the results, forward service account credentials to the wapi.
